Run Out Of The Toothpaste? 3 Temporary Replacements

Diane Mason

You know it is important to brush your teeth everyday. But what do you do when you wake up and find out you ran out of toothpaste? The following are a few substitutes you may already have in your home that will suffice until you can buy more toothpaste.

Baking soda

Believe it or not, that simple powder you probably haven't used in a while can help you out of your jam. Baking soda is slightly abrasive and safe for your enamel; it can help remove surface stains and harmful bacteria from your teeth.

The other helpful thing about baking soda is its pH balance, which helps neutralize the acidity in your mouth. This important because oral pathogens can procreate easier in an acidic environment, which is taken away when you use baking soda.

Just add a little water to the baking soda to make it paste-like, and then use it as you would your toothpaste.

Diatomaceous Earth

You may know this as a skin cleansing clay or a detoxing clay, as the food grade version can be used for many purposes. But you can also use diatomaceous earth to clean your teeth. All you have to do is add a little water to make it into a paste, just like you did with the baking soda. Put the mixture on your toothbrush, and brush your teeth.

This clay will be helpful because diatomaceous earth contains metallic ions that help kill all types of pathogens, including the kind that may be in your mouth wrecking havoc.

Apples

If you don't have any of the aforementioned powders, you may have a few apples in your home. You can use an apple to clean your teeth. Apples are helpful because they are abrasive and should lift any surface stains off of your teeth.

The other good thing about apples is that they contain an active ingredient called malic acid . This ingredient helps stimulate saliva by activating your salivary glands. Saliva contains enzymes that kill harmful bacteria, and it also has minerals that help strengthen and restore your teeth's enamel.

You can also find malic acid in the following:

  • Strawberries
  • Grapes
  • Rhubarb

There you go, now you have a few more ways to clean your teeth, just in case you forget to buy some toothpaste. Remember that these solutions do not replace your regular and affordable dental care regimen. They are only meant to help temporarily.

Understanding Root Canal Procedures

Hey everyone. My name is Jaheem Gherdley. I made this site to talk about root canal procedures. Root canals are usually performed to save broken or rotten teeth. My situation did not deviate from this norm. I was eating my favorite crunchy snacks when my tooth broke straight down the middle. I ignored this development until an infection set in deep in the root of my tooth. My dentist urged me to come right in for an emergency root canal to save the tooth and stop the spread of infection. The procedure stopped the pain and kept my tooth in place. From that point on, I decided to learn all I can about root canals. I will share the information I've gathered with you to help you understand the importance of this procedure. Thanks for stopping by.
