FAQs About Veneer Repair

Diane Mason

You may be wondering if getting veneers is a practical matter. Many patients are quite happy with their porcelain or composite veneers. They can help you overcome problems with decay or cosmetic issues while lasting for quite some time. You should also know what will happen if you crack or chip a veneer. If you do have a problem with your appliance, you will have several options to fix the issue. Read on to have three common questions about repairing and replacing veneers answered.

How Long Do Veneers Last?

According to experts, veneers, when they are properly fitted, should last for decades. For some people, they may last a lifetime. However, veneers are not invulnerable. They generally will break when they experience the kind of trauma that can break natural teeth. If you take a blow to the mouth or bite down on something hard, the veneers may crack or break. Dentists warn those who grind their teeth that they may need to wear a mouth guard at night to protect their veneers.  Rarely, they will pop off, although they should not if bonded correctly. Do remember that as you age your gums may recede and reveal some of your natural teeth. If your veneers do not match the enamel that is revealed, you may need to have them replaced for cosmetic reasons.

How Are Porcelain Veneers Repaired?

Cracks in porcelain veneers can sometimes be repaired by using a porcelain composite. You will need to find an expert in this type of repair, however, or the color of the repair will stand out from the other veneers. In some cases, you will need to have a new veneer applied since a repair will not be visually pleasing. When a porcelain veneer actually breaks, it has to be completely replaced. No one can simply glue it back together or use filler to do so.

How Are Composite Veneers Repaired?

Composite veneers are less expensive and can be designed and applied more quickly than porcelain veneers. They can also be repaired more easily. Although some people prefer the look of porcelain veneers, composite models may be more practical.

If you decide to have veneers applied, you can be relatively sure that they will last for decades. You will need to carefully care for them, however, just as you do for your natural teeth. A mouth full of veneers does not mean you can forgo regular brushing and flossing. Subtle cracks in your veneers may not need to be repaired, but if you have concerns, consult your dental professional.

Understanding Root Canal Procedures

Hey everyone. My name is Jaheem Gherdley. I made this site to talk about root canal procedures. Root canals are usually performed to save broken or rotten teeth. My situation did not deviate from this norm. I was eating my favorite crunchy snacks when my tooth broke straight down the middle. I ignored this development until an infection set in deep in the root of my tooth. My dentist urged me to come right in for an emergency root canal to save the tooth and stop the spread of infection. The procedure stopped the pain and kept my tooth in place. From that point on, I decided to learn all I can about root canals. I will share the information I've gathered with you to help you understand the importance of this procedure. Thanks for stopping by.
