3 Ways To Ward Off Bad Breath As A Denture Wearer

Diane Mason

Most people assume that bad breath is mostly associated with dirty teeth and germs around bad teeth, so naturally, it is easy to also assume that having dentures would mean there is no reason to have bad breath. Unfortunately, dentures may be false teeth, but they can develop an odor just the same as your natural ones. Bad breath can show up for denture wearers just the same as anyone else. If you have dentures and you have been dealing with bad breath, there are a few tips you can use to prevent the issue from being a recurring problem.

Clean your dentures thoroughly after consuming certain foods.

Dentures are made with materials that are mostly plastic polymers like acrylic. These materials can leach odors from the foods that you eat, especially if a food is especially pungent or aromatic. If you have been having issues with bad breath, pay careful attention to what you are eating that could be contributing to the problem. For example, onions and garlic could leave a bad odor attached to the dentures. If you eat something that has a string smell, make an effort to clean your dentures immediately afterward so the smell doesn't get trapped in your mouth inside of your dentures for the day.

Consider taking your dentures out at night.

Germs and bacteria will multiply faster in a dry mouth, and germs and bacteria can easily be contributing factors to bad breath. If you have ever noticed that bad breath is usually common in the morning, it is often relative to the fact that the mouth has been dry for a lot of the night. If you wear dentures while you sleep, the same rules still apply. Therefore, taking your dentures out at night can prevent them from developing that telltale morning breath odor.

Make sure you are using the right kind of toothbrush for your dentures.

Cleaning dentures and cleaning natural teeth is not the same process. Dentures are made of a different material and therefore, require a different brushing technique to get rid of the most residue and buildup in an adequate fashion. Make sure you are using a soft-bristled denture brush to gently buff away food particles and residue on a consistent daily basis. If you are having major issues with bad breath, you should consider cleaning your dentures even more than usual--perhaps even after every meal or beverage.

Understanding Root Canal Procedures

Hey everyone. My name is Jaheem Gherdley. I made this site to talk about root canal procedures. Root canals are usually performed to save broken or rotten teeth. My situation did not deviate from this norm. I was eating my favorite crunchy snacks when my tooth broke straight down the middle. I ignored this development until an infection set in deep in the root of my tooth. My dentist urged me to come right in for an emergency root canal to save the tooth and stop the spread of infection. The procedure stopped the pain and kept my tooth in place. From that point on, I decided to learn all I can about root canals. I will share the information I've gathered with you to help you understand the importance of this procedure. Thanks for stopping by.
