Avoiding Serious Dental Problems: Go By What a Dentist Recommends and Don't Make Decisions on Your Own

Diane Mason

The idea of getting a filling at the dentist is not something anyone embraces with enthusiasm but really should. Sure, numbing injections and drilling are not exactly fun. Still, not having a cavity filled only delays the inevitable. A trip to the dentist cannot be put off when tooth pain becomes so severe that eating even soft food is a chore. Delays also set the stage for potential root-canal procedures. That said, few feel enthusiasm over getting a filling. Would it not be wonderful if an alternative to traditional cavity-filling procedures existed? While an alternative does not exist right now, one may soon be on the way. Regardless, no one should take inroads in dental research as an excuse for avoiding basic care. Those who are serious about their dental care really should be pragmatic about good news coming from dental-research reports.

Stem Cells and the Future of Dentistry

A study has revealed a mix of stem cells, and an already approved drug could lead to the teeth literally refilling themselves. In a way, the procedure of the future could turn a cavity into something akin to a minor wound. With a little care, the problem will heal itself. All this is good news, but the news could lead some to putting off their dental care. Waiting for a new, less-invasive procedure to arrive might lead to the current condition getting far worse.

The Dental-Floss Dilemma

Other confusing dental-care messages may be reaching the public. For decades, everyone was told to brush and floss many times daily. Today, skepticism surrounds the value of flossing. Flossing has even been called "pointless." Such a harsh criticism may be a bit overstated. The process of using dental floss to remove food from between the teeth may or may not be as effective as previously believed, but ceasing to floss against a dentist's suggestion probably wouldn't be wise.

Dental Advice

Any dental problem that goes unchecked is subjected to a lack of proper care and is prone to get worse. Specifically, the gums may start to suffer from inflammation and infection. Receding gums and bone loss could occur as a result. The best way to avoid such issues is to see the dentist twice a year and take their advice on what can and should be done now with current treatment methods. Don't just go by what is published in the newspaper or online.

About Me
Understanding Root Canal Procedures

Hey everyone. My name is Jaheem Gherdley. I made this site to talk about root canal procedures. Root canals are usually performed to save broken or rotten teeth. My situation did not deviate from this norm. I was eating my favorite crunchy snacks when my tooth broke straight down the middle. I ignored this development until an infection set in deep in the root of my tooth. My dentist urged me to come right in for an emergency root canal to save the tooth and stop the spread of infection. The procedure stopped the pain and kept my tooth in place. From that point on, I decided to learn all I can about root canals. I will share the information I've gathered with you to help you understand the importance of this procedure. Thanks for stopping by.
