2 Easy Ways To Naturally Keep Tartar From Building Up On Your Teeth

Diane Mason

Even if you are diligent about brushing and flossing your teeth several times a day, you may still worry that you may have tartar building up that could cause cavities or gum disease. If so, consider adding one or both of the following easy, natural remedies for keeping tartar buildup at bay using ingredients you may already have at home.

Use Baking Soda to Scrub Tartar Away

One way you can help remove excess tartar from your teeth's surface enamel is to use a baking soda, a natural base. Since tartar is acidic, the baking soda neutralizes the acids. When used as a thick paste, the abrasiveness of the baking soda then scrubs your teeth clean.

Mix equal amounts of baking soda and warm water, about a quarter of a teaspoon each, until it is thick and pasty. Put it on your toothbrush, and brush your teeth for two minutes. Then, rinse with warm water, or use the vinegar and water rinse described in the next section.

Rinse Your Mouth with Vinegar and Water

If you do not have any baking soda on hand, or if you prefer not to use an abrasive on your teeth, another natural tartar prevention remedy you can use is a vinegar and water rinse. While white distilled vinegar is an acid like tartar, it contains a different type that can break down the buildup.

To make the rinse, mix one or two tablespoons of vinegar with a half of a cup of water. If you are not used to the taste of vinegar, start with the lesser amount until you grow accustomed to it. The more vinegar you have in the mixture, the stronger the taste will be.

Rinse your mouth with the water and vinegar for a half a minute to two minutes. Again, you may have to work your way up to the maximum amount of time if you find the taste of the vinegar overpowering.

Once the time is up, spit out the mixture. Try to keep from eating or drinking for about 15 minutes after the treatment to give the vinegar extra time to break down any residual tartar.

While using the above natural remedies along with your normal oral hygiene routine can help keep excess tartar from building up, you should still have your teeth professionally cleaned at least once a year. If it has been a while since your last visit, make an appointment with a dentist so they can thoroughly clean and check out your teeth.

Understanding Root Canal Procedures

Hey everyone. My name is Jaheem Gherdley. I made this site to talk about root canal procedures. Root canals are usually performed to save broken or rotten teeth. My situation did not deviate from this norm. I was eating my favorite crunchy snacks when my tooth broke straight down the middle. I ignored this development until an infection set in deep in the root of my tooth. My dentist urged me to come right in for an emergency root canal to save the tooth and stop the spread of infection. The procedure stopped the pain and kept my tooth in place. From that point on, I decided to learn all I can about root canals. I will share the information I've gathered with you to help you understand the importance of this procedure. Thanks for stopping by.
